I thought I would post this as my tumor is reaching it's forth year since it's discovery, it's much older as it probably starting growing 10 years ago, diagnosed as a atypical
meningioma grade 2 but that is not certain (until a cell biopsy in done). At the time I was having a few problems like personality changes, blurred vision, memory loss, could
not estimate distances, speech issues like mixing up terms, names of people and objects, could not type and could not recognize symbols. The meningioma was pushing my brain
forward. My meningioma was caused by two factors, genetics and three CT scans (while waiting for an operation for a unrelated injury). Radiation is the trigger/cause of
meningioma, the world health organisation has issued a white paper which list's preventative measures for cancer and one of the things they list is less CT scans. The Chinese
in a recent study have also found that people with meningioma have up to 3 times the amount of Bi-phenol's (fire retardant in all plastics) in their bodies than normal. I
decided not to have conventional treatment as I did not trust the people/hospital who caused the tumor in the first place and the removal I feel would have caused more
problems than it would solve. The specialist surgeon has said that the removal will cause more damage and only partial removal would only be possible. The surgery risks are higher than any benefit at this time.
I have treated myself with turmeric (spice), no (cane) sugar and recently no carb diet. It's taken a while but I now feel healthy and I have a
normal life with no problems. My GP gradually increased my visit intervals till he said " I want you to start coming to see me once every six months, actually forget that,
why don't you wait until the next time your sick" and that was just over a year ago.

Another 3 months have past and I thought I'd add some of what has happened since I last posted. I am always trying to improve my self Hippy Herbal treatment. Before my Tumor
adventure I was not a believer in herbal medicine as a competitor to convention treatment, well it literally is a live and learn experience for me. I now have access to to
fresh Turmeric which is sold at the local fruit and vegetable market by the Asian sellers only, I am not the only person who buys there, after chatting to the sellers they
inform that lots of Indian people buy it in great quantities to treat their own cancers. I buy about a kilo a month which costs $30.00 AUD. I had only used dried turmeric
which I cooked mostly into soups. I am also buying fresh beetroot, which nowadays is getting more coverage in health journals, it's purple and the trendy health nuts are into
anything purple as being the best antioxidants. Beetroot is better because it's not full of fruit sugar as like with berries. It also has a long tradition of use for
treating leukemia in European herbal medicine and there are a few conventional medical listings for post radiation nutritional supplement. In my reading it seems to have several
tumor effects concerning blood flow and breaking tumor cell bonds (what's holding the tumor mass together).
With the first stage of my self treatment my tumor had seemed to have stopped progressing hence my Doctor stopping my regular appointments, but I still had the tumor and it
could kick off at any time and the other thing about having brain tumors is that a large percentage of people who have them die of aneurysm (my uncle). My new self treatment
is in stages and I took the fresh turmeric by blending it with some fruit juice and down the hatch once a day for the first week, I also add some almond milk to make it
nutritionally interesting to my body to aid absorption. In the second week I started adding beetroot, pretty much it tasted disgusting but medicine isn't supposed to be fun.
During the day time I do lots of walking, lite exercise is the best as again because of the risk of aneurysm, still it does give me a headache so I am careful. At the end of
week three of my new mix I noticed a swell throbbing sensation on my right temple which got worse by the second day. I took my mixture again and went for a walk, during that
walk I started feeling a burning sensation in the area of my tumor (not unusual with exercise) and it got more intense than I have ever had before, then the throbbing in my
temple started and it to became very intense as well, then a big lump half the size of a small egg formed just behind my temple. at the time my first thought was "shit what
have I done and this could be it". I sat down and my panic lessened and so did the sensation and swelling. I waited very calmly for half an hour then went home and slept for a
full 12 hours. When I got up I still had the swelling but it was much reduced and responded it seemed to my blood pressure level.
I thought about going to my doctor and decided to not too, for many reasons but mostly because I new that I would end up in hospital being poked and prodded maybe to leave
worse than when I entered. So I took some more of my new mixture and within 20 minutes the same pain was back again and just as intense.
From that last bad experience I decided to stop taking my new mixture. After a week all the throbbing and pain was gone, my thinking at the time was everything is good as it
looked as if I had adverted near disaster. So I went out for a walk, all was good and then I noticed that I was not getting any burning sensation from my tumor or the slight
headache afterward. cool. I again decided to try the mix again for another week. Toward the end of that week the throbbing sensation and pain was back, so I stopped again for
a few days until the sensation went away. I have taken my mixture again and decided not to stop until the sensation came back. It hasn't but I had a few nights of fever with
intense sweating.
I've done some research and in the area of the throbbing is an artery called the Templar Meningitis which supplies the brain covering called the meninges and the cranium, it
is also the artery that supplies blood to my tumor. If I'm right then it has pulled away and has stopped supplying blood to the tumor. I think that's what happened, since then
I had a couple of nights of fever and sweating, the sweat on my head was very thick and sticky almost like immunoglobulin. It might be that the tumor has died and the fever
was my body getting rid of the dead tissue, makes sense to me and seems to explain everything that has happened. I have been exercising and everything seems perfect, I've even
had a few runs and don't have any headaches or anything.
I don't think I'll get this tested as I would just like to live as best I can for a while and see how it goes, I am going to take my new mixture for one week out of every four
just as a preventative.
Please don't try this yourself as I think it's risky and I really can't say I have been successful until I have a scan to prove it and at this stage I'm not inclined to do so
as I'm tight with my money and I'm satisfied that I have done it. I'll post in a couple of months

Well it's been a further six weeks since my last posting and I think that now I have had partial success with my turmeric / beetroot mix. I now don't think that the tumor has died (wishful excitement) but it certainly feels different in a good way when not on the mix. At the end of a week of taking it for a week I feel pressure in my temple area's (both sides now). Not really head achy, just pressure, no swelling lump on the right hand side like when I did it the first time. I know that beetroot increases blood flow to the front of the brain but I did not think that it would be this obvious. I am also not having the head sweat like I did before but I have noticed a very small increase in body temperature. Again I would like to say don't try this unless you inform your doctor as I do feel that this mixture is very powerful, I am going to try for a bit longer than a week on the mix to see if there are any issues and then I'll post a week after to report on how I feel when not on the mix.

Hi Mike

Surprised that surgeon is opposed to surgery given its location and well defined edges. Have you sought a second opinion? Most neurosurgeons operate on the spine and do few brain operations.

Good on you for taking control of your diet. It helps keep me alive after 8 years.

There are other options of treatment but they probably won't offer these until you become anaplastic. You may find successful treatment relieves local pressure and symptoms.

Thanks for sharing.

Regards

Ken

Just as a quick reply, Meningioama don't often become anaplastic if ever. I suppose it has to do with the genetic inheritance factor. Other conventional treatments don't work, radiation (photon treatment) is the cause so exposing the area to more would make it worse and this type of tumor tends to be immune to chemo, proton treatment would be a option but there are no facilities here in Australia. I'll write a longer reply but it will take a while because I want to explain a few issues in detail.

Hi Kenobewan,

Below is my best description, I hope it makes enough sense but it seems to me a bit dark which is generally not the way I think. I am a happy and positive person in my daily life but in trying to accurately describe some very complex issues I seem negative but that's not the way I feel about it.
I have not gotten a second opinion as what's been discussed with my doctors (GP, Surgeon and Psychologist) seemed to make a lot of sense, I went into a lot of detail with them and I have done my own research.
There are a few different issues.
Surgery
My type of tumor is well known and it's location is not uncommon but the location is the worst. I have a very large quantity of blood vessels supplying it, major arteries, a lot of minor, you can see the ones going left and right but you can't see the ones forward from the front of my cranium. There are also tendrils of tumor going out in the same directions, the general shape of the tumor is more like a half star-fish or hand. The tumor also penetrates my skull to the point that you can see and feel the ridges on the top of my head so it would not be possible to use the common method of a horse shoe shaped cut and flip it open to access the tumor to clean it out. Total removal of the skull area with a plate over the hole is what would happen and would involve a number of different surgeries. Also because of the location of the tumor partial removal is most likely. You can always find a surgeon which will be willing to do any surgery but the end result can be devastating, a subject that is not talked about much is that the surgeon is not involved in the rehabilitation of the patient. He does his job and then your passed on to the next expert to do their job, ultimately he is isolated from the long term results being those positive or negative. If you don't die from your surgery then it's generally positive and any other results are up to others to deal with. A mark of a good surgeon is to know when to stop cutting. For myself as previously mentioned the most likely outcome is only partial removal of my tumor not total removal, which most probably would mean regrowth and or new location growths, so more surgeries would be needed in the future. I have already experienced cranial surgery and it's no walk in the park so repeating the process into the future is also a bit daunting.
After effects of a Damaged brain and therefore the mind.
One of the big issues to me is that the tumor has effected my brain, with the onset of the tumor it compressed/penetrated both lobes of which also pushed the brain forward inside my cranium, the resulting damage from the tumor has been difficult to deal with but not impossible, the obvious problems such as the speech problems, vertigo, distance estimation and cognitive decline have abated because of neural plasticity and time. Further damage caused by treatment won't leave me in a condition to look after myself not just in the short term but also in the long term as well. The main short term problem is the brain swelling which causes paralysis and cognitive deficiency. That part is usually dealt with in hospital and you are looked after while that is happening so although it can be alarming your safe and cared for. The short term effects can be dealt only to a certain point, you reach a point where what you are left with then becomes your normal. I have not met one person who is the same person that they were before the onset of damage from their tumor and or treatment. With modern surgery it's possible to remove large parts of the brain but the effects on the person are dealt with in a secondary manner, is it all right to treat someone but leave them so dysfunctional that it becomes impossible for them to look after themselves and or function in society, for me the answer is no. I have looked after myself all my life and cannot and will not rely on others. I would not force any of my relatives to disregard their own lives to look after me in the long term, as that usually happens with people who have an acquired brain injury.
Another side effect of surgery is scaring, I put this in the long term effects because it can take over a year for scaring issues to appear, scars can take time to form and they can cause epilepsy. There are drugs to help protect against harmful fits, most of those have their own side effect issues. Look at Scott's quality of life posting in the forum, I think that says a lot of things that are not dealt with enough by doctors.
My decision
My age is another consideration, I have lead one hell of an interesting life and have life experience both good and bad. If you lived to twice my age you still wouldn't have lived as much as I have. When I hear that young people have cancer I get upset but for someone my age it is no big deal I think. I'll try anything none harmful to extent my life within reason, hence my herbal mix. I am not going to mention my actual age as for me it's more about my maturity instead of a number. I decided at the end of seeing and talking to the experts that I would not have the surgery because it would end any quality of life that I want, to me life is not a quantity exercise.

If you or anyone have questions or comments please post them.

Recently I have been asked questions about some of the alternative treatments. My main thought is why not if it's not going to cause you harm and secondary to that it will not interfere with a treatment that someone is already taking.
Baking Soda with Maple Syrup
Oral baking soda also known as alkalizing. Generally this involves mixing baking soda with maple syrup or honey and then eating it. I don't like the idea at all for a number of reasons. Not all tumor cancers are acidic in nature, some are alkali and some are neutral. Increasing the alkalinity of the body using a chemical (baking soda) is dangerous because it is very easy to overdose, by the time the overdose is detected usually by urine testing the damage is already done which sometimes leads to organ failure and death because of that. The only evidence I have seen that baking soda has been successful is when it was directly applied to a tumor (needle injection) not via the digestive track, stomach acid would break the baking soda down so make it ineffective. If I wanted to cause an alkali reaction in my body I would do so by eating something acid to cause my pancreas to produce alkalizing solution in my duodenum which then would only be for a short time because everything that reaches the intestines has been neutralized by the digestive process. The simplest way to debunk this treatment is to state " If alkalizing worked then it would mean that every bottle or can of soft drink ("soda pop" the USA name, which is made with baking soda and sugar) would therefore be a treatment (cure) for tumor types of cancer."
I have seen the video in which the Italian doctor claims that all tumors are the result of fungus because they are white. I think that's rubbish because the difference between a pimple, cyst and tumor is the amount of calcium (which is white) present in the immunoglobulin (also white). That does not mean that the tumor was not triggered by a fungus infection, I just dispute the observation. A tumor is the bodies last ditch effort at blocking the infection and resulting cancer cells from spreading, unfortunately tumors can cause organ dysfunction that leads to death as it's size gets bigger.
I think that putting baking soda in direct contact with a tumor would cause it to break down because it would cause a chemical reaction with the calcium in the tumor. The problem is what then happens to the cancer cells and or infection that the tumor has been holding captive, much like with surgery would then result in the cancer cells and or infection spreading to new sites to start the process of tumor formation all over again.

Dietary Speculation
I read an interesting article the other day on the earliest known cancer, dated about 3200 years ago. The male victim came from an agrarian society which used wheat products(flour), before then the only other identified cancer victim was about 1600 years ago, he too was from an agrarian society that also used wheat products (flour). The scientists who commented in that article then went on to state that the cause of the cancer could not have been the carcinogens which we in modern society blame cancer for because they of course would have not been present, apart from wood smoke but that one has been around for a long time and seems very unlikely to have generated these cancers, when we were hunters and gatherers we had a diet of what we could find and so far I have not seen any articles that indicate that any of them had bad teeth or cancers, so until someone finds a skeleton which shows they got cancer I'll assume their diet was really good for their bodies, makes sense to me.The other common food product which they would have shared would be a vegetable oil, the ancient Romans just about built there empire on the trade of olive oil. Edible oils are supposed to be good for us, take for example olive oil, lowers cholesterol, which in turn is supposed to lower heart disease. Now it seems that our recent obsession with none saturated fats is wrong as well, it turns out that saturated fat is better for us and that in actual fact eating it is more beneficial than edible oils. We have replaced saturated fat with sugars in a lot of foods thinking that all calories are equal and that the sugary ones are not as harmful, WRONG, it's the exact opposite. So I have decided to conduct an experiment on myself. I have changed my diet, no processed sugars (no juices but whole fruit O.K. but I'll limit it to a couple a week), no edible oils and no wheat products. Only fresh produce from now on, when it comes to dining out smart choices from the menu and asking chiefs and waiter to modify orders to fit my needs.

Fungus
I have been thinking lately a lot about the bases of what tumors are and the process and reason for their formation, it is known that there shielding the body from what's inside them but they are also part of the problem, growing and destroying tissue around them, causing organ dysfunction. Most are very hard to treat and the removal of so called benign tumors leads to further formation of new tumors in new locations. So on that bases you would think that it is the result of an infection, but of what type. I've read about Grays cell and he seems to think that the bases is bacteria or at least some form of bacterial life cycle. Others like that Italian doctor seem to think it's a fungus infection. Others radiation, which is bitch because if you have one based on that then chemo-therapy and photon treatment would make the situation worse. Mine is a so called radiation induced tumor so apart from surgery nothing else is supposed to be effective. I think that the radiation has caused an underlying vulnerability so the infection agent can move in. I have treated myself on the premise that I had to stop the growth and then try to make it shrink. I think I have been successful with stopping the growth but not the shrinking, so I think it's time to reassess and try something fundamentally different. I think the turmeric has been successful, it stopped the growth, the beetroot, I'm unsure, it's done something but as to what I can't tell.
So in the spirit of self experimentation I'll try the fungus angle, why? because I have already taken some of the strongest antibiotics for other infections so I would think since those are like biological bombs and kill any bacteria present in the body I think I have covered the area completely. I have acquired a very strong anti-fungal which is taken orally, it accumulates in the the bodies fatty and neural tissue, seeing as the brain is largely fat and neural tissue, this drug should do the job. I have to be very careful as this drug has some very bad side effects such as blindness, permanent loss of taste and can cause sudden liver failure, there are many other side effects. I am doing this because I can and if I am successful then we can all benefit. I have proper medical supervision. Again I want to state to those reading this that you should not do this, the risks are high of causing yourself life threatening damage are high.
I have also stopped taking turmeric and beetroot as I don't want any cross chemical interactions which could put extra pressure on my body. So I've covered all I need too, I will be taking the anti fungal for 2 months.

Well there you go done and dusted, I have finished taking the anti-fungal and have avoided the worst of the side effects, not all unfortunately, I had a couple of weeks of low grade fever and nausea. There is an improvement in my health so the exercise was worth it. Has it changed the status of my tumor, probably not and I won't know for a while anyway. I am not sick and there are no signs of any illness which is good, looks like my tumor is not going to kill me anytime soon.

thanks Ross,
Secondary infections are the worse thing for someone who has cancer, either the cancer or damage from treatment i.e. radiation lowers the immune systems effectiveness. I considered mine a primary infection which may have helped in combination with radiation to induce the tumor. Anyhow I am still noticing that my health has improved permanently.

I started to decline again about a month after my last post, more infections, this time bacteria, took some really strong antibiotics but the infections came back a couple of days after stopping, my doctor didn't know of anything more he could do so i decided yet again to take things into my own hands, I started on a Ketone diet, after the first week I noticed the deference and so has my doctor, all infections have now disappeared and so have my headaches and I have had a reduction in tumor size. I am know healthier than I have every been and my doctor is flummoxed, can't believe it and can't explain it. Hooray, taking some turmeric in coconut milk as well.

Still here,
I'm happy and healthy, I have been maintaining a ketogenic diet. My tumor has been quiet ( not causing me any issue ).
