13-cis-retinoic acid (accutane)

Post by jonesgw2 » Fri Jan 13, 2006 10:42 am

Hi all,

My wife was diagnosed with GBM in August 2005 and has undergone Radiotherapy concurrent with Temodal and is now on Temodal for 6 cycles. I want to broaden the range of drugs she takes and want to include Accutane in the mix. Is there anyone out there who has persuaded their doctor to prescribe this in the UK. My wife's oncologist won't prescribe it as it is an acne drug, but suggests the General Practitioner may do so. However, befor i approach him, I would wish to know what approach others have successfully used in order to get the drug prescribed.

Hope someone can help.

Don't know how it works in the U.K, but here an oncologist would have to perscribe it off label which just means that you have to pay full price for the drug. Here it has to be perscribed by a dermatologist in order to get the perscription benefits. We pay around around $160.00 to $180.00 for 1 months course.

Best wishes
