Proton Therapy In Australia

Post by kenobewan » Thu Sep 16, 2010 10:59 am

Proton therapy is arriving in Australia. See link for details:

It won't be available until 2013 and it will be private. But I see this as great news. See proton therapy articles in research section for benefits.

For more benefits see -

Goal - to be around 2013 to take advantage :).

I have had a look at the development of the facility and it looks to be opening around Jan 2015, 1 bay only at first, 2 more bays to open within 9 months, but if you are a medicare (public, not private insurance) patient then your out of luck, it will be privately run and one treatment will be about 25,000 AUD. So although you may be a good candidate for the treatment you gotta have the cash or private insurance.

Hold that comment.

I had a re-look for the article posted above and it looks like it's all stopped. The article has been pulled so the deal to build a facility in Melbourne has failed. All reference to the facility has been removed from Proton Therapy Australia. The Organisation has re-allied with the Mater Hospital Brisbane and is now speculated to get up and running sometime in 2018, so don't wait for this one either as it will likely fail as well.
